What are YOU doing to make Garrett GREAT?

Daily Announcements:
  • Thank you for participating in our fundraising program!  We have many exciting plans for the year ahead, and your efforts will help make them possible.  Notes to remember:  please remember to collect payment for all items at the time orders are placed.  Checks should be made payable to Garrett Middle School PTSA.  All order forms are due by Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008.  Turn in forms each morning at the school store, for your chance to win the daily drawing.  A character stuffed animal will be given away each day throughout the fundraiser.  Sell just 12 items and you will be automatically invited to our Mega-Party on September 16th, 2008.  If you have any questions, please email us at:  GMS-PTSA@comcast.net, or stop by the school store before 9:30 a.m.
  • Spirit wear:  Don't forget to bring in your Garrett Gator t-shirt and hoodie orders!  PTSA will be taking pre-orders through next week ONLY!  Tees are $10.00 for PTSA members and $12.00 for non-members, and hoodies are $20.00 for members, $22.00 for non-members.  Spirit wear order forms, as well as membership forms were sent home Thursday, 8/21.  Additional forms are available at the school store.  Join PTSA when you order and save $2.00 per shirt. 
  • South Cobb Jr.  Eagles Basketball Tryouts:  Tryouts are for 4th-8th grade boys and girls and will be held at the South Cobb High School gym on Tuesday, August, 26th at 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 27th at 7 p.m., and Saturday, August 30th.  On Saturday, August 30th, tryout schedule will be as follows:  10 a.m.-5th and 6th graders, 11 a.m.-7th graders, 12 p.m.-8th graders.  Students must live in the South Cobb High School district to participate and a parent must be present to sign a permission slip.
  • Do you love reading?  How about competition?  Put the two together and you have the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl!  Reading books for competition has never been so much fun!  An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 3 at 4:30 p.m. in Mrs. Goldman's room, Pod 7-1.  Students must be picked up by 5:30.
  • Order your Garrett Middle School yearbook for only $25.  Put your money in a payment envelope and into one of the black boxes located in the commons area.
  • Intramurals will begin on Tuesday, September 2.  All Garrett students are offered the opportunity to participate in intramurals as an extension of the physical education program.  Students will participate in a variety of individual, team, and recreational activities.  Intramurals are held Monday-Friday, 7:40-8:40am.  No entries after 7:55am.

Parents and Students - information regarding the 2008-09 Safe Rider Program can be found here.  We encourage you to complete the Safe Rider contract for your child and return it to your child's bus driver.
 
Dr. Page received the 1st Place award for Outstanding Middle School Principal through the Georgia  PTA organization.  He was nominated by our own local PTSA along with other principals throughout Georgia and was recognized at the Georgia PTA Annual Convention & Leadership Training held in July at the Georgia International Convention Center.  Congratulations your achievement, Dr. Page!



 
 
Yearbooks are now being sold for $25 and can be purchased by cash, checks or credit card.  Students must place the payment in a white payment envelope and drop it into a black box located in any commons area.  Parents may pre-order a yearbook (credit card payment) by visiting the yearbook order center at https://www.yearbookordercenter.com/orders/selectJob.do?id=2189 .
 
The proposed SPLOST III projects for 2009-2013 are now listed on the Cobb County School Districts website.  As a reminder, the projects outlined for each school are listed on the District website. Click on this link http://www.cobbk12.org/SPLOST/ and then go to #8 Facility Summary.  We also encourage you to view the video/Power Point presentation, "SPLOST I & II: At A Glance", which is also on the website.  You'll see it listed under "Media Features".  To make it full size, simply click the small square icon.
