Hayes News Network (HNN) is on the air!
HNN is the morning news show produced by fifth graders at
Hayes Elementary. The program is broadcasted live throughout
the school on Channel 6. Students are chosen for each news
team based on student interest, reading ability and teacher recommendation.
News crew members rotate through all of the jobs associated with
putting on the morning broadcast. Each team *stars* for

About the Media Center
Philosophy
The Media Center is the hub of the school. It is a warm,
inviting place where teachers, students and parents feel welcome.
Our mission is to create a
community of life-long learners through fostering a love of
reading and equipping students with the skills necessary to
succeed in today's technology rich world. We have over 19,000
items including books, magazines, videos, DVDs, equipment and
instructional materials to support the curriculum and personal
information needs.
Here, students and teachers choose books and magazines for
pleasure reading, research
to find information on a specific topic, work on projects, check out materials, and so much
more. The Media Center has an automated check-out and
cataloging system. Teachers and students may search for
library books and materials from any computer in the school.
Mrs. Kent regularly collaborates with classroom teachers to
integrate technology and information skills into the curriculum.
She also sponsors the morning television news show - HNN.
Reading Motivation
Opportunities are available to participate in the Pizza
Hut Book It program and the Six Flags/Weekly Reader
Six-Hour Reading Club during the school year. Book It
typically runs October - April and Six Flags runs January -
February.
