Significant Accomplishments
- Keheley is one of six Cobb County Schools designated as a Green School for our commitment to environmental education.
- Keheley teacher received a Watershed Mural Grant from the Cobb County water system. Funds will be used for students to study water quality and create a class art project (quilt) that depicts how students will help to keep their watershed clean and healthy.
- Instructional goals are aligned with expected student performance
- Improved collaboration between home and school (via Blogs, school website)
- Increase in staff collaboration and the use of team and school norms is leading us in the direction of a Professional Learning Community.
- Grade level data teams analyze student math assessments, focus on individual student progress, develop strategies to reinforce skills, and measure growth
- Keheley students and staff were awarded the 2005 & 2006 PACE Award (Propelling the Achievement of Children through Excellence) primarily for growth in individual student achievement on standardized tests. This award also recognizes the professional growth of the certified staff.
Significant Challenges
- Moving below grade level students to grade level in math, reading and language arts
- Increasing the percentage of students who presently achieve at the proficient level into the exceeds category
- Teaching our students with disabilities and our students that are economically disadvantaged so they will learn and perform satisfactorily on the CRCT
- The state requirement for meeting or exceeding expectations in Reading/English Language Arts is 73.3%; our SWD scored 82% and our Economically Disadvantaged scored 81%. The state requirement for meeting or exceeding expectations in math is 66.7%; our SWD scored 82% and our Economically Disadvantaged scored 84.5%.
- Closing the gap between sub-group scores
- 48.2% of all students tested in grades 3-5 exceeded on the math CRCT while only 19% of Economically Disadvantaged students and 21% of SWD exceeded. 6.2% of all students in grades 3-5 did not meet standards in math while 15.5% of Economically Disadvantaged students and 18% of SWD did not meet.
- 31.7% of all students tested in grades 3-5 exceeded on the Reading/English Language Arts CRCT while only 9.5% of Economically Disadvantaged students and 8% of SWD exceeded. 7.4% of all students in grades 3-5 did not meet standards in Reading/English Language Arts while 19% of Economically Disadvantaged students and 18% of SWD did not meet.
- Creating a culture of a professional learning community
- Challenges in implementing Performance-Based Instruction led to a School Focused Staff Development Plan that requires teachers to work collaboratively with their teammates and other grade levels in order to meet the challenge of creating classrooms with fewer worksheets, more collaboration among students, and assessments that involve fewer tests, more projects and more higher level thinking activities.
