SCHOOL MISSION AND BELIEFS

INTRODUCTION

The mission and belief statements were originally created in 1998 at a faculty instructional planning retreat. Each year the mission and belief statements are reviewed by the entire faculty and feedback is given to the CORE Team to make any modifications.

MISSION

Keheley Elementary is dedicated to providing a motivating, integrated academic program for all
students. We will model and provide a safe, nurturing environment that promotes problem
solving, critical thinking, cooperative spirit, creativity and an enthusiasm for learning.

BELIEFS

  • We believe the staff should recognize the developmental stages of individual students, assess their needs, and thereby provide them with experiences of success and accomplishment that will aid in developing self-discipline and a positive self-concept.
  • We believe all students should acquire the necessary academic skills to become proficient at reading, writing, math, and the use of technology.
  • We believe all Keheley stakeholders should establish and evaluate school wide goals and revise and update these goals as needed.
  • We believe the school should establish a continuous, sequential and challenging program to provide emotional, social, physical and academic success for each student.
  • We believe the staff should provide positive citizenship experiences while respecting individual differences.
  • We believe the staff and parents should collaborate to provide a quality education for all students to become lifelong learners.

ACTION PLAN

Priorities

The Action Plan is divided into two parts---one for student achievement and one for school performance. The first section of the plan looks at student achievement.

STUDENT LEARNING PRIORITY

Keheley's priority for student learning is for all students to improve math skills.  We expect to lower the percentage of students performing below grade level in math and increase the percentage of students performing on or above grade level in math.

SCHOOL PERFORMANCE PRIORITY

At Keheley Elementary, we anticipate creating a clear and compelling vision for professional learning that is standards-based, results-driven, and focused on the daily work of educators in order to improve student learning. Through collaborative efforts, we will identify appropriate strategies to implement professional learning standards. We are dedicated to creating time during the work day to be used for collaborative professional learning communities. Current research studies show that the process of transforming staff development into professional learning communities enhances student achievement. According to Judith Warren Little, "Effective collaboration between teachers [is] linked to gains in student achievement, higher quality solutions to problems, increased self-efficacy among all staff, more systematic assistance to beginning teachers and an expanded pool of ideas, methods, and materials that [benefit] all teachers."
