MISSION
& BELIEFS Our mission and belief statements are developed through an interactive effort between the school and stakeholders. To ensure current reality, the mission and belief statements are revisited annually.
The following statements we believe to be true about Murdock Elementary and our mission as educators:
-
Everyone learns.
-
Learning is our priority.
-
Everyone has the right to a safe environment of trust and mutual respect.
-
Everyone should be provided with a variety of opportunities to extend and demonstrate achievement.
-
Everyone is a valued individual.
-
Educational excellence is everyone’s responsibility.
PRIORITY FOR STUDENT
LEARNING
Increase Written Communication Achievement
Research supports writing across the curriculum as a major initiative for student progress (Reeves, 2000). The benefit of writing across the curriculum is that it facilitates student engagement in the process-based approach to writing. Lane (1996) and Reeves (2000) state that the only way to raise the quality of writing in a school is to create, share, and celebrate the specific criteria for that quality with everybody on a regular basis.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT GOAL
-
Students write across the curriculum for a variety of purposes at or above grade level standards.
-
Writers acquire the process of translating ideas and information into written text Proficient writing will increase student achievement in all disciplines.

PRIORITIES FOR SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
Collaboration
"Schools cannot be made great by great teacher performances. They will only be made great by great student performance" Schlechty (2002). Active engagement is a requirement for maximum learning to take place. Teachers and staff collaborate to promote and share effective teaching strategies to create and support a safe, trusting community for learning.
SCHOOL PERFORMANCE GOAL
Collaboration school wide with stakeholders to utilize data which will drive
instructional and school wide decisions
