Rocky Mount has approximately 4,100 Accelerated Reader tests. Lists of available tests are located in the Media Center as well as at the children’s desk at the Mountain View Public Library. We add reading tests several times throughout the year and recognize readers with parties and gift books twice a year. A list of high point earners is displayed in the school and updated monthly.
ABOUT THE A/R PROGRAM
Rocky Mount is proud to offer the Accelerated Reader program to our students. The Cobb County school system offers this reading program in all elementary and middle schools. AR makes it easy for children to choose books at their own level and read them at their own pace. They then take a short test in their classroom or the Media Center which assesses comprehension. Students are awarded points based on how many questions are answered correctly. It's a great way to motivate children to read. Rocky Mount's Accelerated Reader program includes approximately
4100 titles. We will be adding more titles every year increasing the number of books available to your child.
HOW A/R BOOKS ARE IDENTIFIED
AR books are identified by an orange colored dot on the spine of the book. The dot also has an added colored dot to designate reading level. (A chart indicating these colors and reading levels is located below.) We have just finished writing the specific reading level on the AR dots right on the spine of the book for easy selection.

A/R REWARDS
At the end of each semester, the Media Center hosts an Accelerated Reader party for top point winners. There they will join their friends to share juice and cookies and pick out some books for pleasure reading. It's another incentive to keep reading those books!
