Sope Creek Library

... planting the seeds of literacy...

The Sope Creek Elementary School Library Media Center has recently undergone a complete

renovation to enable students more access to the collection of books and resources.

The center section of the Library has a moveable partition that can be closed for speakers or other

events and still allow access to the books, story time, reference help, and instruction. The remainder

of the online catalog computers are located in this section as well. Also located in this main room is a

ceiling mounted LCD projector for use during instruction and presentations. The main circulation desk

is at the front of the room with a smaller remote circulation desk located at the rear of the room for

use when the partition is closed.

The Reference Room has been separated by a wall with large open windows and contains all student

magazines, reference materials, and professional journals, books and videos.

The students also have access to two of the eight online catalog computers in the Reference Room.

From these, students can easily access the Cobb Virtual Library, Microsoft programs and our own

online library catalog.

The Media Center is currently in the process of updating and aligning the collection with the new Georgia

Performance Standards that have begun implementation this year. The Library Media Center is continually

updating its picture books and fiction books through the generous support of the PTA’s monthly Birthday

Book Club.

The Library is open from 7:15 to 2:45 Monday through Friday. Students are encouraged to visit the

Library Media Center before school and with their classes for research, group reading time, story time

and study.

The Library maintains a flexible schedule which allows use by several groups of students, parents,

and faculty members at any given time during the day. The schedule for classes is available in the

Library office for teachers to view and sign up for book exchange, story time and learning, as well as

information literacy skills instruction. Scheduling of Library space for other than individual class use

is arranged through the Administrative Assistant, Jessica Appleyard.
