Lindsey Tippins, Mystery Reader
The “Star Classes” of Vaughan Elementary School hosted Cobb County School Board Chairman, Lindsey Tippins, as a Mystery Reader on Read Across America Day, March 2. The students in Mrs. David’s Kindergarten and Mrs. Sharp’s First Grade worked together in their Family Group setting to read Dr. Seuss books all week in preparation for Read Across America, a literacy campaign sponsored by the NEA. Read Across America is celebrated on Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Mr. Tippins captivated his young audience by reading The Cat and the Hat and was in turn treated to the students’ performance of two favorite poems about reading and school. Everyone attending sang "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Seuss and enjoyed birthday cake in his honor. Mr. Tippins told the children that reading is like a “jar full of cookies” and encouraged them to continue reading. Students wrote him thank you cards and asked him to come back to read again sometime soon.Click on pictures to enlarge.
