May-Get Caught Reading Month
May 2nd- Fourth and Final AR Period ended. All student and parent books are due back to the media center as we prepare for year-end inventory.
May 5th-8th- Half Off Book Fair, 7:15-3:00 PM.
May 8th- PTA Meeting- Kindergarten and First Grade will be performing at 6:30 PM. Half Off Book Fair will be open until 8:00 PM.
May 9th- Field Day- Please see Coach Pruitt for details.
May 19th- Accelerated Reader Beach Party- 10AM- 1:00 PM. Only first grade and multiage students who have met their goals 2 or more times, including the fourth AR period and Kindergarten students who met their goals during the fourth period may attend. Invitations will be sent home soon.
May 20th- Kindergarten Awards.
May 21st and 22nd- First Grade Awards.
May 23rd- Last Day of School! Have a safe summer vacation!

Fourth AR Period- The Fourth Accelerated Reader Period began on Tuesday, March 18th. Parents, you may log in to check your child's AR goals at the Renaissance Place website. The Fourth AR Period ended Friday, May 2nd. Students must meet their goal in the final period in order to attend the Beach Party. Please make sure that your child is reading towards his or her goal. Congratulations to Austell Primary for being named a 2006-2007 Title I Distinguished School for the 5th year by the Georgia Department of Education. We have made Adequate Yearly Progress for five consecutive years!

In the Spring of 2008 the first grade students will be required to take the Criterion Referenced Test (CRCT). In order to prepare the students for this assessment, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has created the Online Assessment System (OAS). Students may take online versions of previous CRCT assessments and review results. To login, students enter their GTID as their username and the password "education". Please see the classroom teacher for your child's individual GTID.

The state of Georgia has created an instructional and professional website for educators and parents alike. www.GeorgiaStandards.org provides information on Georgia's performance standards as well as up-to-date information on educational initiatives.

Congratulations to Mrs. Grigdesby's Class for winning the Shelf Elf award for the month of March. They used quiet voices and walking feet while in the media center. Additionally, they had the best record for book returns during the month. Way to go!

Yearbooks on Sale- $15! Please See Ms. Mitchell for your copy.The Attendance Incentive contest is in session. If your child is in school on time everyday he/she will be entered to win a free bike. Remember: school begins at 7:50 AM. Please be in class on time every day. ASP is a prepaid program. Registration is $7 and tuition is $7 per day. Mrs. Mitchell is in need of volunteer readers in the media center. If you are interested, please stop by anytime. The media center is open from 7:15 AM to 2:15 PM. Parents are invited to check out books, videos, and magazines.
