Austell Primary and Austell Intermediate Schools are nestled in the southwest corner of Cobb County, in the heart of Austell, Georgia.  In 1889 the Austell City Fathers raised a bond to build a public school on a lot donated by land owner Glen Mozley.  Alfred Austell's recent widow put up the bonds so that a two-story brick building was able to be built and opened in 1891.  The first building shown below was built in 1890 and was the first public school in Cobb County.  The second building, shown above, was constructed in 1929. The original two story building was torn down soon after the completion of the 1929 building.

The third building was built in 1939 and mostly housed high school students.  This building was constructed from gray brick and was known as the "Gray High School Building".  Several buildings were built thereafter providing a locker room for football, a small lunch room, and various activities.

In 1952 South Cobb High School opened and high school grade students left Austell Public School.  From 1964 until 1970 four additional buildings including a new cafeteria were added to help house Austell Junior High School grades. In 1972 Garrett Middle School opened absorbing grades 6, 7 and 8 from Austell Junior High leaving Austell Elementary with Grades 1st through 5th.  It was this year the 1929 building was vacated and Austell Elementary School was housed in the 6 remaining buildings on campus including the "Gray High School Building" seen below. In the early 80's the City of Austell leased the 1929 building from the Cobb County School District and named it the Kate Westmoreland building in memory of a long time noted Austell Public School teacher.

In the fall of 2001 Austell Elementary moved from downtown Austell 5 miles north into a state of the art facility off of Meadows Road in Powder Springs.  In 2003 all 6 remaining buildings were demolished to make way for Austell Primary School.  In the fall of 2005 a new building was constructed on the site of the original Austell Public School. The fall of 2005 gave birth to Austell Primary School.   This school houses Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grades. Thus creating Austell Intermediate School with grades 2nd through 5th on the Meadows Road site.   Austell Schools are rich with tradition and history.  The Austell City founding fathers realized the importance of education in our community and provided generations with 116 years of learning.
