August Book of the Month

Rainbow Fish
by Marcus Pfister

August 13, 2007

Dear Students,

I am excited about sharing, with you, the books that I have chosen as the book of the month for this 2007-2008 school year. To start our year, I have selected The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister for the August book of the month. This is a book with beautiful pictures. The story is about one particular fish that was the most attractive fish in the ocean. It had glittery scales and was admired by all of the other fish because of its beauty. It was called Rainbow Fish. Rainbow Fish’s popularity made all of the other fish want to play with him.  However, Rainbow Fish was very self-centered and would say no to all of the invitations.  One day, Rainbow Fish made a little blue fish feel bad because he refused to give the little blue fish one of his glittery scales. This made all of the other fish angry.  So, they decided to stop speaking to Rainbow Fish.  Eventually, Rainbow Fish had a change of heart and became friends with all of the other fish again.

My favorite part of the book is when Rainbow Fish reconsidered his behavior and decided to give the scale to the little blue fish.

This is a great book.  I like it because it teaches sharing and how to make friends.

Love,

Mrs. Betty Jo Jackson
