February 1, 2008 Dear Students, I am very excited and delighted about the book that I have chosen for the month of February. The title is Cherries and Cherry Pits by Vera B. Williams. This book is all about a girl, whose name is Bidemmi, and her drawings. When Bidemmi starts to draw, her imagination takes off and she tells wonderful stories. One of the things I like about Cherries and Cherry Pits is that Bidemmi tells about five different stories. All of the stories are told while she is drawing the pictures. Bidemmi uses many colorful markers, which make each picture beautiful. Also, in each story, it appears that Bidemmi has a profound affection for cherries and cherry pits. At the end of each story, she tells about eating cherries and spitting out the pits. My favorite part of the book is when Bidemmi plants all of her cherry pits and explains how a cherry tree grows. Her drawings showing how a pit grows into a cherry tree are captivating. Also, I like the way Bidemmi uses her imagination. She tells terrific stories and she draws lovely pictures. I hope you enjoy Cherries and Cherry Pits, too.
Love,
