Policies
Austell Primary Media Center
HOURS
The Media Center is open to students, parents, and
staff members for circulation, reading, computer use etc. from 7:15 A.M.
until 2:45 P.M. Students not accompanied by a teacher need a signed
pass to use the Media Center during school hours.
As per Georgia State Standards, the media center uses
flexible scheduling. This means that the media center is open for parents,
teachers, and students throughout the school day. Individual students may
use the media center before school with no pass or in small groups during
school hours with a media pass. Whole class or large groups must be pre-scheduled
with the media specialist after collaborative planning. There are only
four unescorted students per class allowed in the media center at one time.
Media activities include, but are not limited to leisure reading, check
out, audiovisual production, online research, and information literacy
training.
LOANS

Kindergarten students and
First Grade students are able to check out two books at a
time or one book and one magazine. Books are due back in two-weeks while
magazines are due back the next school day.

We encourage students to return books before the due date.

Students must return overdue books before checking out
more books.

Parents may checkout up to 4 four books at one time for up to
two-weeks. We also have magazines and videos or parent use. Books on tape are
currently
available. Please stop by and visit our Parent Resource Room.

Faculty and staff members may have up to 50 books checked out
at one time for up to 60 days. At the end of each unit of study, we ask that you return
books not in use so that others may have access to them.

Reference materials are to be used in the
Media Center only.
- Professional journals may be checked out by faculty and staff members
only.
- Audiovisual materials may be used in the Media Center
for research by students and may be checked out by staff members or parents for
up to one week.
- Parent volunteers and book donations are encouraged.
LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS

If books are damaged while in the student’s possession,
the student will be responsible for the damage or replacement fee before
any other materials may be checked out.

The average cost of a hardcover books is $20.00.
The average cost for a paperback book is $5.00.

Damaged book charges will be individually assessed.
