Accelerated Reader
Austell Primary Media Center

Accelerated Reader is a reading management program that has been proven to motivate children to read. Developed by Renaissance Learning, AR provides accountability through a measurable method for assessing student's reading growth.

Kindergarten and First grade students conference with their teachers before beginning Accelerated Reader testing. Each student has individual goals to achieve. Students read books within their reading level and take AR quizzes once they are ready. Upon achieving their goals, students receive a sticker, have their pictures moved up along the giant ice-cream cone in the hallway, and eat lunch on the stage. At the end of the year, the students who have achieved their goals 1 out of 2 times in Kindergarten or 2 out of 4 times in First Grade will be invited to our AR Beach Party. The AR students who have exceeded those goals will receive a special prize at the final awards program. Please see your child's teacher to discuss your child's individual goals. At this formative age, it is imperative that students receive assistance from their parents in order to achieve their goals.
