You will need to research child labor, women’s suffrage, and labor unions.  How did these topics affect the people living during that era and how has your life been affected by these movements?

Child Labor: You are going to read three stories written about child labor and the appeal to reform this activity.  The Dirty Children, Mr. Coal’s Story and The Story of My Cotton Dress tell about the treatment of children during this time period. These stories were told to support the protection of children by the elimination of child labor.   Then you are going to look at a montage (collection) of photographs dealing with this issue.  Newspaper reporters called muckrakers used photographs like these to incite people to action against child labor.
