Big Shanty
School Council
The goal of Big Shanty’s School Council is to involve both the school and the community in decisions that directly affect student success. School Councils were created under the A-Plus Education Reform Act (HB1187). All School Councils consist of at least seven members:
School Principal
At least 2 Parents/Guardians (elected by parents)
At least 2 Certified Staff members (elected by staff members)
At least 2 Business/Community representatives (appointed by School Council)
Last year, the Big Shanty School Council focused on promoting good attendance and awarded students for perfect attendance at the end of the final two marking periods. Gayle Booker, representing Washington Mutual, provided gift cards for students selected in a school-wide drawing. The Council voted to expand this program for the 2006-2007 school year. The Big Shanty School Council will elect another third and fourth grade parent representative and a third grade teacher representative this fall and will meet several times during the school year. All minutes will be posted on this website.
