About Big Shanty's      Computer Lab

 
Our computer lab has 28 networked Dell computers.  All of the lab computers have Internet access.  Our students enjoy learning many programs including Hyperstudio, Kid Pix Deluxe 3, Inspiration, Neighborhood Map Machine, Time Liner, Print Shop, Power Point and Excel.  We use many different programs to reinforce classroom curriculum including Accelerated Reader, Math Blaster, Spelling Blaster, Quarter Mile Math, Georgia Facts, Super Phonics, and KidWare activities.

 

     

Our students develop writing, comprehension, and basic word processing skills using Student Writing Center,  Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and KidWorks Deluxe.  We use Type to Learn to practice our keyboarding skills.  For research we use World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia as well as a variety of online resources.

 
   

   The classes are part of the specials rotation in combination with the media center.   During this time the students  are actively involved in projects that integrate Math, Science, Social Studies, and the Language Arts areas with computer skills.  The students begin projects with research activities in the media center lessons and then they learn technology skills while they apply their research to create a final product.  Rhonda Rownd is the Computer Lab Specialist.
