Birney’s School Council is made up of 2 parents, elected by parents of Birney’s student body, 2 teachers, elected by Birney’s teachers, 2 community members, and the principal.  Additionally, the meetings are open to the public and, quite often, our PTA president attends.  It is the responsibility of the Council to review the School Improvement Plan and provide input on matters impacting the academic program, as well as other important areas.  This year, members of the School Council have joined our America’s Choice Design Team in conducting monthly focus walks.  Data is collected from teachers and students to gauge what standards are being taught and if students know what they are learning.  Our Council is also focusing on what they can do to reduce student transiency (50%).  It’s a challenging task, but Birney’s School Council wants to tackle it!
