MISSION Our mission at Blackwell Elementary School is to establish a strong, cooperative foundation for lifelong learning by nurturing, guiding and challenging all of our students to achieve their maximum potential. BELIEFS Our Core Beliefs about Learning and Discipline: • Student learning is the main priority of our school. • Student success in school depends on strong reading, writing, and math skills. • Each student is valued as an individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs. • The staff is committed to continuous improvement to enable students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners. • Curriculum and instructional practices incorporate a variety of learning activities to accommodate differences in the learning styles and abilities of our students. • Teachers, administrators, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the school mission. • Students should be responsible for solving their own problems with adult guidance. • Students should learn that breaking rules results in the loss of privileges. • Students should face consequences instead of punishment whenever possible. • Preserving and/or enhancing a student's self-respect and dignity is crucial to a successful disciplinary action. • Students should not see the adult as the source of their problem during a disciplinary action. • Discipline should be considered an opportunity for personal growth rather than a bad thing that should never happen.
