The Reading Garden.
Where Knowledge Grows”

Blackwell Media Center Blog

Blackwell Elementary has a very active media program.   Students are encouraged to select materials which will support their lifelong love of reading.   We have weekly story times for Kindergarten, First and Second graders.   Skills lessons are taught throughout the year in Third, Fourth and Fifth grades.

Students make use of books, magazines, print Encyclopedias as well as several computerized resources including multimedia Encyclopedias, magazines and newspaper data bases for research and pleasure reading.

We have a collection of over 22,000 books and materials for student checkout.

Online resources are provided for student use during the school day on the computers in the media center and in the classrooms.  These resources include: World book Online, Grolier Online, Culture Grams, eLibrary and Galileo , a resource from the the State of Georgia. .Students who have access to an internet-connected computer can use these resources at home to complete homework assignments and research projects outside school hours.

There is a link on the Cobb County Site to the Virtual Library. You may access this site at http://cvl.cobbk12.org. Username for all is cobbhome and password for all is cobbhome.

Each conference week, the media center hosts the book fair.  This year the book fair chairperson is Michelle Blancato. She and her volunteers helped raise over $1,000.00 during the fall book fair .  This money will be used to purchase new AR tests for the books we purchase this fall and for two speakers who will come to the media center to promote the arts of storytelling and writing.  We will have another book fair in during spring conference week.  Thanks to all of our volunteers who helped to make this a very successful school year.

Media center staff includes Mrs. Fowler, Media Specialist and Mrs. Cullinane, media paraprofessional.
