Make Way for Ducklings


Introduction:

Mrs. Mallard has decided to take her young ducklings on a walk to their new home.  To get home in the Public Garden, Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings must walk through the busy streets of Boston, Massachusetts.

Task:

During this assignment, you will learn about ducks, listen to some duck calls, and play some games helping lost ducks.

Resources:

Mallard Duck (Activity 1)
Make Way for Ducklings (Activity 2)
Learn about Mallard Ducks (Activities 3, 4, and 5)
Ducklings (Evaluation)

Activities:

1.  What color is the male mallard duck?  What color is the female mallard duck?
2.  Where is the sculpture that shows the ducks from Make Way for Ducklings?
3.  What is the male mallard duck called?
4.  How many eggs does a mother mallard duck lay in her nest?
5.  What do mallard ducks eat? 

Evaluation:

Print out the map from the Ducklings web site listed above.  Can you draw Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings as they travel to their new home?

Conclusion:

Sometimes moving to a new home can be scary.  Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings had an adventure to remember!  Do you have any adventures to remember about moving to a new home or a new classroom?
