Fables and Folktales

Introduction:

The great African spider man, Kwaku Ananse, tries to win the Sky God's box of stories so he can share them with the world.  In order to win the stories, Kwaku Ananse must complete three difficult tasks.

Task:

Storytelling is a fun way to learn.  Through stories we can learn about others, learn how things are done, and have fun all at the same time. You will learn about fables and folk tales and share some stories with your class.

Resources:

Wendy's World of Stories for Children (Activities 1 and 2)
Funny You Should Ask (Activity 3)
Internet Public Library Story Hour (Activity 4)
Fun Things to Do (Evaluation)

Activities:

1.  What is a fable?  Who wrote many fables?  What is the title of one of those fables?
2.  What is a folk tale?  Where did folk tales come from?  What is the title of a folk tale?
3.  Fill in the blanks for a funny story.  After you have completed your story, read it and print it.  Share your story with your class.
4.  Listen to two stories from this site.  Which story was your favorite?

Evaluation:

Complete the story activity from the Fun Things to Do site listed above.  Share the story with your class.

Conclusion:

Storytelling is a fun activity that anyone can enjoy.  There are lots of great stories in the library.
