Solar System

Introduction:

The Lord of the Sun's child travels to find his father.  Along the way he must prove his relationship to the Sun.  This story is from a Pueblo Indian legend.

Task:

The sun and planets are interesting to explore.  During this assignment, you will learn about the sun and some of the planets that make up our solar system.

Resources:

How old would you be?  (Activity 1)
How much would you weigh?  (Activity 2)
About Pluto  (Activity 3)
Solar System Switch-a-roo! (Activity 4)
NASA Kids (Activity 5)

Activities:

1.  How old would you be if you lived on Venus?  Jupiter?  Pluto?
2.  How much would you weigh if you lived on Mars?  Saturn?  Neptune?
3.  At one time Pluto was considered a planet.  What is it considered now?  What are three criteria that make it that?
4.  Play Solar System Switch-a-roo!  How long did it take you to match each planet?
5.  Explore NASA Kids site for more information about our Solar System.

Evaluation:

Choose a planet.  Use a writing and drawing program to list facts about the planet and create a picture of it.

Conclusion:

Wouldn't it be exciting to explore the planets in our solar system up close?  Would you rather stay on Earth?  You can continue your exploration by checking out some solar system books from the library.
