Weather Quest

       


Introduction:

     Weather is an important part of our daily lives.  What we eat, wear, and play are determined by weather.  Weather is the state of the atmosphere with respect to hot or cold, dry or wet, calm or storm, and clear or cloudy.  It is the condition of the air around and above a person or place.

Task:

     Using the Internet, you will explore the water cycle, weather instruments, weather maps, and the seasons.

Resources:

Water Cycle (Activity 1)
Weather Instruments (Activity 2)
Weather Maps (Activity 3)
Seasons (Activity 4)
Weather Channel (Activity 5)

Activities:

1.  What are the four stages of the water cycle?  Describe each stage.
2.  List four weather instruments and what they measure.
3.  Using the U.S. Weather Map, find out what the short term weather forecast is today in Georgia, Colorado, Maine, and Oregon.  Compare them.
4.  What causes the seasons?
5.  Write the high and low temperatures for the weather in our area for today and tomorrow.

Evaluation:

How does the weather affect our daily lives?  What resources do we have to help us predict the weather?
