NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY

School Social Workers are responsible for enforcing the Compulsory Attendance Law by working with students and parent/guardians to alleviate the barriers which lead to excessive absences.  This year the state of Georgia revised the Compulsory Attendance Law.  In response to this, the Cobb County School Board implemented a new attendance policy.

Five Excused Absences:  The teacher will contact the parent or guardian.  If contact is unsuccessful, then a letter or postcard will be sent.

Five Unexcused Absences:  After two reasonable attempts to notify the parent or guardian without response, the school will send a letter to the parent or guardian by mail.

Ten Excused or Unexcused Absences:  A letter will be sent from a school administrator to the parent or guardian regarding attendance.  In addition, an Administrator will confer with the School Social Worker to determine whether a referral is warranted at that time.

Fifteen Excused Absences:  An Administrator will confer with the School Social Worker to determine if a referral is warranted.

Fifteen Unexcused Absences:  A referral will be made to the School Social Worker.

The above provisions apply to absences during the entire academic year.

Safety Policy

School safety is always a top priority at Campbell. Our Zero Tolerance policy on fighting will continue this year. There was a substantial decrease in fighting at school over the last several years that this policy has been in effect. Our students feel safer and enjoy an environment free from threat. Non violent resolution to student conflict is strongly encouraged. Peer mediation is available at school by requesting it through the guidance office. Full disciplinary policies will be included in the student handbook.
