Course Requirements
Materials:
You should have the following materials for each class:
1. Pencils and erasers
2. Notebook with loose-leaf paper (8˝ X 11) and dividers
3. Textbook
Grade Assignment
Your grade will be based on the following:
1. Daily work 20% 2. Quizzes/Projects 20% 3. Tests 40% 4. Final exam 10% 5. State EOCT 10%
Teachers of this course are required by the Georgia State Department of Education to administer the Georgia End-Of-Course Test (GEOCT). The GEOCT will count 15% of the student's overall grade for the course and will appear on the student's transcript.
Grade Procedure
Assignments:
1. Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. It will be checked on a regular basis.
2. Assignments are due at the beginning of class. No credit will be given for late daily assignments. Assignments left at home or in the locker are not excused.
3. Work must be shown in order to receive credit.
4. Be sure to use a proper heading, including your name, date, page, and exercises.
Quizzes/Tests
Tests will be cumulative - approximately 20% of each test will be on previous material. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. Any quiz missed cannot be made up.
Make-up Work
1. You are responsible for making up work missed when absent.
2. Make-up work must be turned in as specified in your student handbook. Note: Progress reports issued every three (3) weeks.
Academic Expectations
1. Come to class not only physically prepared (see “Materials”), but also prepared mentally (review homework, study definitions, formulate questions about ideas you do not understand) and with a positive attitude.
2. Mathematics is a participation sport, not a spectator sport. Engage the mathematics at a personal level. Master it; make it yours!
3. Homework is due at the beginning of the class period. Late homework (any homework not immediately passed forward when the instructor calls for it) is not accepted. The earned grade is a zero.
4. Students should be present on test days. Within 3 days of the missed test, a make-up exam must be scheduled by the student. A grade of zero is recorded if the student fails to make arrangements within the specified time frame. The test must be made up within one week of the test date.
5. There will be no test retakes or additional credit awarded to artificially raise the earned course grade.
6. Any assignment due on the day of an absence is due immediately upon the student’s return to school. Note: this is not necessarily the day the student returns to class.
7. Extra help is available before and after school. Check with your teacher for times. If your teacher is not available, see the Mathematics Tutorial Schedule .
