OPERATION

Regular operating hours for the Media Center are from 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM Monday through Friday. Students working on class assignments may come to the Media Center before school with a pass from their assigning teacher.  Teachers collaborate with the Media Specialist in advance to ensure needed resources are available.

Individual students are welcome in the Media Center throughout the school day to check out books and to do research supporting the curriculum.  All students will have a pass from the sending teacher stating their assignment. Teachers will schedule groups and classes in advance by signing up with the Media Specialist. The Media Center operates on a flexible schedule for accreditation requirements.

CIRCULATION

Students may have two books checked out and may keep them up to three weeks, rechecking them if needed.  No additional items may be checked out if a student has any overdue items. Students are reminded of overdue items through overdue notices throughout the school year.  Overdue notices are also placed in report cards.

The Media Center houses one research computer lab and one project computer lab.  Teachers collaborate with the Media Specialist on research times and needed resources.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Parents are welcomed as volunteers! We especially need help with the Fall and Spring Book Fairs held in the Media Center.  Help with book shelving and special projects is needed throughout the school year.

RESOURCES

The Media Center has a collection of 17,000 books to support student and teacher needs.  Destiny, the online card catalog may be accessed from  the school network and gives information on print and non-print sources.  The WEB PATH EXPRESS function of Destiny provides safe educational web sites for students.

The Cobb Virtual Library offers online databases including several encyclopedias that may be accessed by students from any internet connected computer at any time from anywhere.  Student passwords are available from the Media Center or from their teachers.
