First Grade Target

In the 2006/2007 school year, all first graders will be screened to determine if testing for gifted eligibility is warranted.  The screening process will involve the use of a teacher.parent Recommendation for Consideration checklist and a mental abilities assessment. 

In September, all first grade students will take the Raven Coloured Progressive Matrices Test.  This non-verbal test of mental ability will be used in our screening process to determine if testing for gifted eligibility is warranted.  Please not that instruments used for screening purposes cannot be used to determine gifted eligibility.

Upon completion of both screening instruments, a determination will be make as to whether it is appropriate to test for gifted eligibility.  If it is determined that it is appropriate for your child to be tested, a permission form will be sent home in December and must be returned before the holiday break.  Forms returned after the break may result in delayed testing and therefore, delayed service.

Service for identified gifted students will begin the end of January.
