Description: Chorus is a
yearlong class with the following objectives being taught with various
choral literature, sight reading materials, and theory activities. To
support Daniell’s school goals, there will be an increased focus in
reading and writing in all subject areas.
Objectives:
- The learner will be
able to identify basic vocal anatomy including the diaphragm, larynx,
soft palate, nasal cavity, and articulators (tongue, lips and teeth).
- The learner will be
able to sit and stand up straight with feet should width apart with
weight evenly distributed, rib cage lifted, shoulders rolled back and
down, head centered, arms by side with a relaxed body.
- The learner will be
able to demonstrate basic knowledge of proper breathing techniques
through warm-ups and performance.
- The learner will be
able to sing major, natural minor, and chromatic scales from memory in
an ensemble.
- The learner will be
able to sing major arpeggios and vocalizes from memory in an ensemble.
- The learner will be
able to internalize a series of pitches, including intervals of 2nds and
3rds, and then correctly sing them aloud.
- The learner will be
able to reproduce the pure vowel sounds ah, eh, ee, oh, oo.
- The learner will be
able to identify and apply clarity of voiced and unvoiced consonants.
- The learner will be
able to apply listening skills to adjust individual intonation within
the ensemble.
- The learner will be
able to identify and apply accurate intonation and quality of tone
through vocal production.
- The learner will be
able to develop the ability to blend with other singers.
- The learner will be
able to sing with attention to balance between parts.
- The learner will be
able to identify correct vocal technique used to control dynamics and
articulation.
- The learner will be
able to develop knowledge of phrase structure and melodic contour.
- The learner will be
able to consistently demonstrate and apply indicated dynamics, tempo and
phrasing.
- The learner will be
able to perform music in unison and harmony with and with out
accompaniment.
- The learner will be
able to explore choral literacy by singing literature that is secular
and non-secular.
- The learner will be
able to perform choral literature at the M or D level as identified by
the GMEA (Georgia Music Educators Association) Handbook, including some
songs from memory, with expression and accurate rhythm and pitches.
- The learner will be
able to sing selections in one or more languages.
- The learner will be
able to accurately read and sing simple melodies using steps and skips.
