At the start
of class today, students were given
time to finish their
Claims Map from Friday.
Students kept the map in the notes
section of their binder.
Students then
worked to fill in the
Exploration Data Table
using pages 104-109 of their
textbook. After taking
approximately 15 minutes to work on
their own, we worked as a class to
completely fill in the table.
A final version of the table can be
found
here.

Students were
given two review sheets at the start
of class today. The first, the
Geography / Prehistory Things
You Should Know Sheet,
covers what the students should know
about the class content from the
first three weeks of school.
That material will not be tested
until the class midterm in December.
The second, the
Exploration / Colonization Things
You Should Know Sheet
covers materials that will be tested
during the week of the 24th.
Students
then read an
Article on Hernando de Soto's Pigs.
Students made educated guesses on
challenging vocabulary words by
using the context clues. We
then discuss the article as a class.

|
At the start
of class today, we completed our
discussion of the
Article on Hernando de Soto's Pigs.
We then
worked together to completed the
Exploration & Colonization Timeline.
Students used materials they had
already completed as well as their
own knowledge to work through the
timeline as a class. The
timeline will be completed tomorrow.

Today, we
began class with a short
Reading Guide on the
English colonies in America.
The reading went from page 110-113
in the textbook. We then went
over the answers to the
Reading Guide.
Following
that, we worked to complete the
Exploration & Colonization Timeline
that we began in class yesterday.
If you need a completed version, one
can be found
here.
Lastly, we
did a short Reading From
Sir Robert Montgomery.
The excerpt was from a pamphlet he
publish in the attempt to get new
settlers to move to "Azilia."
He was unsuccessful in his attempts,
leaving James Oglethorpe the
opportunity to start the colony of
Georgia.

A video on the
founding of Georgia was viewed
today. As students watched the
video, they answered questions on a
Video Guide.
Following
the video, students were given the
second page of the
Georgia Advertisement Assignment.
They spent the remainder of the
period working on gathering
information for their ads.
