Today students worked on completing an Organizer on Juvenile Justice.  Students read from the text to determine the steps in the juvenile justice process and then creates illustrations depicting these steps.

Students discussed and turned in their Organizers on Juvenile Justice today in class.  We then spent a good bit of time discussing the expenditures of the state government.  Students organized the categories of state spending to get an idea of where tax dollars are spent.

Following our discussion, students were able to wrap up the mock general assembly from Friday.  Students whose bills passed through the legislative process were rewarded with bonus points for their effort.

Class began with a discussion of the different types of court cases in Georgia:
       1) Civil Cases: Disputes between two people or groups
       2) Criminal Cases: State prosecuting a suspect for a crime
We then discussed the various types of crime:
       1) Misdemeanors: Low level crimes
       2) Felonies: High level crimes

Students then spent the remainder of the period creating an advertisement for a new governor.  The want ad had to contain the following:
       1) Requirements for office
       2) Additional qualities that can help in an election
       3) Three formal powers of the governor
       4) Three informal powers of the governor

We began class today with a discussion of the three types of juveniles dealt with in Georgia's juvenile courts.
       1) Delinquent - Juveniles who commit an "adult crime"
       2) Unruly - Juveniles who commit "kid crime"
       3) Deprived - Juveniles who are abused or in need

Student then spent time completing and turning in their governor want ads from yesterday.

Once the want ads were completed, students answered a few Questions on the Judicial Branch in Georgia.  These questions were designed to cover any left over material we have not yet discussed.

Lastly, students were given a Review Sheet for the three branch quiz that will be next Tuesday, 12/11.

Today, we graded and collected the Questions on the Judicial Branch in Georgia from yesterday.  The remainder of class was spent with students working in groups on a One-Pager that covered city and county government.
