Anime Club
Anime Club is open to any students who have an interest in or love for the art of Anime. We are still in the process of organizing. Please watch announcements for further information. The club is student-run. A responsible 8th Grader needs to volunteer to organize this event. See Ms. Klodnicki. She is the sponsor.
Awareness
Club /Breakfast Buddies
To extend help to those in need. To be a friend to a special needs student.
Buddies sign up to meet on Friday mornings with their special needs buddy.
Awareness Club meets the second Friday of every month in the Art Room 8:15 - 8:45.
Birdie Bashers
This badminton club meets every Friday in PE at 8:15. Open to all who like to play.
Beta Club
What is the Beta Club?
The National Beta Club, with more than 7,700 clubs in the Junior and Senior Divisions and in excess of 41,000 members, is now in its 70th year. The Junior Beta Club Division, established in 1961, now has approximately 4,800 chapters in 42 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
Objectives on this non-secret, leadership-service organization are to encourage effort, to promote character, to stimulate achievement among its members, and to encourage students to continue their education after high school graduation. Students in the club must complete 20 hours of community service. Ten of those hours need to be completed with school-related projects.
The Beta Club is currently involved in several service projects. One project designed to assist students at Dodgen is the Beta Buddy program. On Tuesday afternoons, Dodgen students in all grades may attend a free tutoring session in which Beta Club members help fellow students in all academic areas. A second project involves making tissue flowers for elderly patients at Piedmont Hospital. Furthermore, students raise money and awareness for organizations, such as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the Salvation Army. Currently, members are participating in bake sales and various other fund raisers to benefit Relay for Life.
If you would like for your student to be a part of this wonderful club, please have him/her attend an informational meeting on Friday, May 9 at 8:15 in Dodgen’s Theater. Beta Club does require dues of $15.00 (due May 20) payable to Dodgen Middle School. The money is for the member’s certificate, pin, and lifetime membership. Book Club
Meets every last Thursday of the month. Meets in the Media Center after school.
Ms. Perkins is a staff facilitator. Sponsored by the PTSA.
Chess Club
Open to all students and faculty who enjoy playing chess, or would like to learn. Format is informal.
Available 1st, 2nd and 3rd Fridays of the month in the Media Center from 8:15 to 9.
DTV
DTV will have their first organizational meeting on Thursday, August 21 at 8:15 a.m. Weekly dates/times will be decided at that time. Applications with a teacher referral are required. Auditions will be held Thursday, September 11 at 8:15 in the Media Center.
Weekly broadcasts will be shown on Friday at 9:05.
Environmental Club
Collecting white paper in each classroom and cans from the cafeteria for recycling. Also maintains the memorial garden between the 6th and 7th grade areas.
Helping Awareness Club collect pull tabs for donations to the Ronald McDonald House.
Holds at least one Saturday workday during which we spread mulch, plant flowers, pickup trash, and trim shrubs and trees.
Make birdfeeders from pinecones, peanut butter and birdseed.
Activities that are centered around Arbor Day and Earth Day TBA.
FCA
Non-school-sponsored club. Meets every Thursday in the Room 631 at 8:15 a.m. for fun and fellowship.
Science Olympiad
The goal of Science Olympiad is to bring science to life, to show how science
works, to emphasize problem solving aspects of science and the understanding of
science concepts. Students develop teamwork strategies that make science
education more exciting. This year, our students will compete in 23 different
events including Wheeled Vehicle, Robotics, Crime Busters, and Disease
Detectives.
Science Olympiad tryouts take place at the beginning of each school year. Thirty students are selected to compete in a county, invitational, and regional competition with other GA schools. The six top teams from each regional competition are then invited to compete at the state level. Only the top two teams at the state level will be invited to the National Competition which will take place in Washington, D.C. in 2008.
Meetings are held every Tuesday after school in the cafeteria.
Student Council
Meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 8:15 in the Theater.
Young Author's Club
Meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 8:15 in Mr. Wilson's
room (614).
Open to any student interested in creative or non-fiction writing.
