Eastvalley Reading Club

· Purpose
Eastvalley Reading Club (EVRC) is PTA sponsored program designed to motivate and improve student reading level and comprehension. The club is available to all students at Eastvalley.

· Accelerated Reader Software
EVRC uses Accelerated Reader Software Program by Advantage Learning Systems. Accelerated Reader has been rated the nation's best selling reading motivation program. The program has been a part of the Eastvalley curriculum for 1st - 5th grades for the last few years. Now it is a part of the curriculum for all Cobb County elementary schools.
How the program works:
A student selects a book from the EVRC book list (copies are available in each classroom, the Media Center, this web page, and the East Marietta and Merchants Walk Libraries). After the book is read, the student takes a test on the computer in the classroom or the Media Center. Students earn points based on the length and difficulty of the book and number of correct answers. The program provides valuable information on the students reading comprehension and reading level.

Incentives for School Year 2004-2005

Books for Breakfast

“Books for Breakfast” is a reading celebration held 3 times during the year.  “Books for Breakfast” is held at 7:30am in the Cafeteria, and includes Donuts and Juice, the announcement of the top two readers in each grade level, and a raffle.  Readers are invited to the breakfast as long as they have achieved the following point goals for each breakfast.  These points are not cumulative, but readers must “earn” an invitation to each breakfast. Top two readers from each grade for each period will be recognized at the Books for Breakfast.  They will be entered into a drawing, and the winner of the drawing will receive a Gift Card from Borders.  This will be done at each “Books for Breakfast”.
