Special Education

At Frey Elementary School we have several programs that are designed to meet the needs of a variety of special needs learners.  These programs include:  Interrelated Resource, Self-contained Learning Disabilities, Self-contained Emotional Behavior Disabilities, Severe/Profound Intellectual Disabilities, Special Needs Pre-School, Speech and Language Disorders, and Pre-School Speech and Language Disorders.

Interrelated Resource
The Interrelated resource program at Frey serves children with a wide variety of mild handicapping conditions. Children who are served in this program can have an eligibility in the  area of Learning Disabilities, Emotional Behavior Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, Mild Intellectual Disabilities, or mild Autism.  They are served in either a pull-out program or an inclusion program depending on the severity of their disability.  They can be served for as many as three hours a day and for as little as consultation.

Special Needs Pre-School
This program serves children who are between the ages of 3 and 5.  They have a variety of disabilities.  Most are served under the label of Severely Developmentally Delayed.  This unit is a  mild moderate unit, meaning that the students are in the mild or moderate range of functioning.  The program has two half day classes.  Each class meets four days a week with the fifth day dedicated to home visits and parent in-services.

Speech Language Program
Frey's Speech-Language programs have grown along with the schools' population.  The scope of services provided range from evaluations through consultation, inclusion, and resource therapy for students diagnosed with communication disorders in the areas of voice, fluency, articulation, phonology, and language.  For students whose language problems are severe enough to require more intensive therapy, referrals may be made for consideration in the Sever Language Program, a self-contained unit housed at a nearby school.
