Book of the Month for
April

April 11, 2006
Dear Faculty, Students and
Parents:
The April Principal’s Book of
the Month is The Pinballs by award-winning children’s author Betsy Byars.
The story is humorous even though it is one of facing and coping with the
difficulties in life.
Carlie, Thomas J., and Harvey are three children who, each because of their
own circumstances, have been sent to live in a foster home. As you would
expect, they have some funny and difficult times as they adjust to living
with each other and a new family.
The children learn about themselves and each other, and as they begin to
experience love and trust they learn what it means to care for others.
As you read The Pinballs, think about a time you’ve had to adjust to a new
situation. What kinds of problems did you encounter? Did you want to talk
things over with someone or did you work your problems out alone? How did
that situation make you a better person?
Happy reading,
Phillip D. Page, Ed. D.
