About Us
|
October I, 2006 Dear Faculty, Students and Parents: For October, I have chosen a book that expresses a message that I hope all of Garrett's students will truly understand. The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes depicts a special friendship that unknowingly develops between three girls from financially and culturally different backgrounds. The Hundred Dresses shows all of us how important it is to accept people as they are and to look for the good in everyone. As you read this inspiring story, I hope that it will provide you the courage to stand up for what is right in spite of peer pressure. The next time someone is being teased, I hope that you will remember this story and find the courage to do what is right. As you read The Hundred Dresses, think of instances at school or in your neighborhood where someone has "had fun" with a person who would not stand up for themselves. How did it make you feel? Were you ever afraid that the teasing might be turned toward you? Have you ever stood up for someone that was being teased? How did it make you feel? I hope that you enjoy The Hundred Dresses as much as my children and I did. It gave us a chance to talk about character and why it is important to stand for what is right regardless of who is involved.
Happy reading, |
