Dear Faculty, Students, and Parents:
To begin the 2006-2007 school year, I have chosen a book that illustrates the importance of cooperation. Garrett Middle School has achieved much success over the past two years because of our philosophy of working together and helping each other reach our goals. Our September Principals' Book of the Month, Head, Body, Legs by Won-Ldy Paye and Margaret H. Lippert, delightfully tell a traditional creation story from the Dan people of northeastern Liberia in Africa.
As you read Head, Body, Legs, imagine what your life would be like without people working with you to make you a better person. How have you helped someone else become better? Cooperation and success are linked in many ways. Reflect on your recent successes and how working with others resulted in your success.
I hope that you enjoy Head, Body, Legs as much as my children and I did. It is a fun and simple story that relates a message that will help all of us be better citizens.
Happy reading, Phillip D. Page Phillip D. Page, Ed.D. Principal |
