Chorus -  http://web.mac.com/garrettchorus

Chorus is available to all students, and opportunities are given each nine weeks to join the chorus program. These are year-long classes which develop skills for choral singing as well as reading, understanding, and writing in the language of music! Members will be provided with a folder, music, and uniforms for concerts, and should have a desire to sing and perform, as there will be many performance opportunities offered throughout the year. These performances include offerings at GMS as well as performances throughout the community. There are also honor events, for example: 6th Grade Honor Chorus, All-State Chorus, Spivey Hall Choral Workshop, District 12 Honor Chorus, and our annual District 12 Festival performance. Extracurricular events include a trip to the Young People’s Concert series for 6th grade, the Atlanta Symphony for 7th grade, and the Atlanta Opera for 8th grade, as well as a Spring Trip for 7th and 8th grade music department students, and our annual Six Flags trip for all grades. Each year also ends with a bang at our Spring Fling concert held at the Mable House Amphitheatre! Come join us and see how much fun singing can be!

Garrett Middle School has also been chosen by the Mable House Cultural Center as the recipient of a community based art project. “Paint Across Time” is a public art project that will chronicle local history through the painting of murals for this historic site. This cultural program will involve students from Garrett with the assistants of the artist-in-residence, Sandy Culp, in artistic exploration and expression in conjunction with historical preservation. The goals for the program include providing an innovative exhibition in a public space to increase community pride and awareness of local history, to enhance community and cultural identity, to celebrate community and honor families through art and to open creative doors for students. This project will continue through the remainder of the school year, with a community celebration scheduled for this summer.
