Introduction
The mission and beliefs statements were created by a school-wide committee in
2003. The goals and beliefs statements are reviewed by the program
improvement team each year to ensure they still in alignment with the vision of
the H.A.V.E.N. staff and organization. Program improvement team members
review the mission and beliefs each year withour teaching staff. the
purpose of these sessions is to elicit feedback and discussion about their
meaning and continued appropriateness. Program improvement team members
then meet to share feedback and information and adjust mission and belief
statements when appropriate.
Mission
The overriding goal of H.A.V.E.N. Academy is "successful reintegration of
students into less restrictive environments." Meeting students' individual
educational needs in order to reach this goal guides our actions. We are
committed to continual improvement in four major areas that we believe can
further our mission:
1. Safety
We will provide environments and facilities
that promote the physical, social and emotional health needs of
the students, staff and the communities served by our program.
2. Student Success
We will promote student success through skills
training in order to facilitate increased independence. This will be
accomplished through the continual training of staff in behavior change
technology. Effective transition planning and the provision of
opportunities for the personal growth of staff and students.
3. Curriculum and Services
We will develop and implement curriculum and
services that are aligned with state standareds and curriculum initiatives
within our associated school districts. We will increase collaboration
between H.A.V.E.N. staff and our stakeholders in order to achieve this goal
and to promote the successful integration of students into less restrictive
environments.
We will provide environments which continually
evolve and adapt to student needs. These adaptations will include, aut
are not limited to, expanding our vocational programs, community based
instruction, therapeutic programs, hands-on learning and access to
curriculum and resources on an equal basis to regular education students.
We will continually evaluate program-wide
supervision needs in order to maximize instructional time.
4. Mutual Respect and Good
Communication
We will provide a harmonious, consistent and
supportive educational environment characterized by mutual respect, clear
communication and acceptance of individual differences among students, staff
and other citizens within our communities.
