Fall 2007 Syllabus
Behavior
Class rules are as follows:
• Be professional.
• Be responsible.
• Respect everyone.
• Clean up after yourself.
• Be attentive and ready to work.
• Don’t talk when I talk.
• No food or drink.
• No cell phones, PSPs, iPods, etc.
• No foul language or fighting.
• All school rules apply.
Absence Policy
Show up to class. Don’t be tardy. If you have an excused absence with an admit slip, you will be allowed the appropriate make up days to complete missed work. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask me for missed work. I will not remind you. Attendance is important. An employer would expect you to show up daily, on time, and complete tasks by or before the deadline. In the real world, being late and missing deadlines is unacceptable, therefore, the same attitude will apply in my classroom. Be professional!
Make-up Work
If you have to turn in your work late because you forgot to turn it in, your pet ate it, “you didn’t know,” its raining, you didn’t save it, because of an unexcused absence, etc. here is the grading policy that will apply:
• 1st day turned in: starting grade of 80.
• 2nd day turned in: starting grade of 70.
• 3rd day turned in: starting grade of 60.
• Beyond 3 days: 0 credit.
Equipment and Supplies
You must have a USB flash drive to save your work. The network is not reliable so to ensure your work is saved this is a good idea. They can be purchased for $10 to $20. I recommend a 2 GB drive. You must have a pen and pencil daily. Be prepared for class.
Grading
• Daily Grade (Participation, Small Projects, etc.) 10%
• Employability (Would I hire you?) 20%
• Assignments / Projects 60%
• Final 10%
Drafting Lab Procedures
Always leave the lab better than you found it. Do not change any settings. No games, email, downloads, or unauthorized internet use. Food and drink are not allowed. Have all of your materials each day. Do not leave papers at the computer. No horseplay.
Employability
As part of the career tech curriculum, I will be evaluating each student in the classroom on industry related standards to determine how employable each student is. This portion of the grade will be based on work ethic, attitude, dress, in class behavior, ability to work with others, staying on task, etc.
Senior Interviews
At the end of the semester, senior students will participate in a mock job interview. This interview will help prepare seniors for future job interviews and also provides an opportunity to develop a resume and portfolio based on work completed at Kell.
Dress for Success
Every Wednesday students are encouraged to participate in this program. This program encourages students to dress in business casual or professional type clothing for preparation for future employment.
Career Technology Honor Society
Information will be provided soon.
