LEARNING GOALS:

Get a head start and prepare for those college accounting classes right here at Kell, and spare the tears later.  This class will prepare you for the world of business and how to account for any business transaction and view the BIG PICTURE.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Accounting I and II will teach you specific skills and techniques for all businesses’ accounting practices.  You will learn how to categorize business transactions, post them to the appropriate accounts, prepare the necessary reports and forms, and assess the financial status of any business on any given date with particular reference to profits and losses.

Each Wednesday students will be encouraged to “DRESS FOR SUCCESS” in business attire and be rewarded with bonus points.  Employability Skills will be taught and exercised as part of the Daily Grade.  Seniors will have an opportunity to take part in Senior Interviews with assistance from our business community Human Resource partners.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Must have pencils, pen, calculator, notebook paper, and a folder/small notebook to hold notebook paper.

ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP POLICY:

A student who is present and actively participates is more likely to be successful; however, if a student is absent, he/she is responsible for asking teachers for make-up work on the day of return.  See student handbook for school attendance/make-up policy.  If a student knew an assignment was due prior to the absence, he/she is expected to turn in the assignment or take the test on the day of return unless other arrangements are made.  ISS and TLC assignments will be sent daily.  Parents will be notified if a student is absent from my class five days or more by me and administration if more.

CLASSROOM POLICY:

Cell phones must be TURNED OFF and NOT VISIBLE.  CD Players are PROHIBITED.  Students will only be permitted to leave the classroom for emergency purposes and only with a SIGNED AGENDA.  If a prior period teacher has held you, you must enter with a SIGNED AGENDA.  A healthy learning environment is a QUIET one.  This course involves a lot of lecture and hands-on pencil and workbook accounting practices.  Talking is PROHIBITED unless there is requested interaction, constructive questions, or a presentation.  No FOOD or DRINKS are allowed in the classroom.

TARDY POLICY:

To avoid being counted tardy, students must be seated and ready for class when the bell rings.  If a student arrives tardy he/she must sign-in on the clipboard located on the teacher desk and proceed to their assigned seat.  With each tardy to class (not to school), students must write a one-page essay and have parents sign a detention form to be returned.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

Cheating is considered a serious matter.  The parents of a student who has been involved in cheating will be notified, and the student will receive a grade of zero for the test or evaluation period, and a grade of U in conduct.  See student handbook for school academic integrity policy.
