Kell’s Marketing is a cooperative program which can include three connected elements:

1. Marketing content is taught in the classroom and in the school-based enterprise, The Bull Pen.  A variety of applied learning projects utilize in class resources as well as out of class resources such as field trips to leadership conferences and businesses in the area.

2. DECA Club activities encourage participation in leadership development events, civic consciousness activities, and business and marketing competitive events.

3. Paid and non-paid work experience provide opportunities for students to earn and additional .5 or 1.0 of Marketing Field experience credits in conjunction with the Marketing class.

Grades will be calculated using a weighted system:

Projects or other evaluations              40%         (Co-op students-employer evaluations will count in  this section)
Employability Evaluation                   20%         (Co-op students–monthly work log, work-site paperwork attendance will count in this etc)

r Occasional extra credit assignments will be made available to all students.  No extra credit assignments will be given to individual students to negate zeros from regular classroom work.
r Participation is a very important part of this course.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

r It is important to be in class each day.  Co-op students will lose points for absences and tardies to class.  The Co-op training agreement outlines this policy.

r Each student should turn in an attendance slip upon entering class.  Students are responsible for getting their slip at the end of class.

r After an absence, it is each student’s responsibility to determine missed assignments and  to complete by the agreed upon due date.

r The school make-up work policy will apply to students in this program.

r No make-up work will be provided for students who have misses classes due to class cuts.

DECA Dues:

There is a $15.00 due for the DECA club.   The dues will register the student for local, state and national DECA.  Each student will receive a DECA t-shirt when dues are paid.  A fundraiser will be provided for students who wish to take advantage of it.

How to be a Successful Marketing Student:

r Have excellent attendance.

r Maintain a positive attitude.

r Use enthusiasm when completing work/projects.

r Be open to the opinions of others.

r Use respect when working with team members and instructor(s).

r Be open to work with your classmates as team members.

  

Expectations:

r Students may not leave the classroom for any reason without his/her agenda.  The agenda must be signed by the instructor.

r Students should bring their notebook and pencil and pen each day.

r Cell phones, iPods, M3P players may not be visible during class time.

r CDs and or headphones may be used only when the instructor gives permission.  This will only be during class project work.

r Students assigned to ISS are responsible for missed work.

r Students may not eat or drink in this class.  Students who break this rule will be required to stay after the bell to clean up the classroom.

r Daily work will not be accepted late.  The penalty for projects which are turned in late is as follows:

r  Project turned in on day 2—74% will be the highest grade

r  Project turned in on day 3—70% will be the highest grade

r  Project turned in after 3rd day-50% will be the highest or teacher discretion

Career Tech Programs

r ·Dress for Success Program. Every Wednesday students are encouraged to participate in a “Dress for Success” program designed to develop their professional image. The optional attire on Wednesday will be business casual or professional business wear. Students will be acknowledged by their Career Technical teachers on this special day each week.

r · Employability Grade.  As part of all Career Tech courses, students will be evaluated on their employability skills.  Employability guidelines will be discussed and implemented. The C/T instructors are striving for each student to have the necessary skills for college, their career or employment.

r Senior Interview Each senior will participate with an interview during the second semester.  A resume and/or portfolio will be required for this interview.  This is a mandatory requirement for seniors.  It is also an awesome opportunity to network and learn techniques for interviewing that will be beneficial for the future.

r On occasion, a G or PG 13 movie or show will be used as part of instruction in the marketing programs.  Some examples of movies/shows that might be viewed are Remember the Titans and The Apprentice.  Parents, if you do not want this to be a part of your child’s instruction, please note next to your signature on the welcome letter attached to this syllabus.
