CIRCULATION

Checkout Procedures

All books and magazines must be checked out prior to leaving the Media Center.

Students must have a current Kell ID card to check out materials.

A Due Date sticker will be placed in each book as a reminder when the book is due.

Students cannot checkout materials if they have overdue books or outstanding fines.

Loan Duration & Limits

All regular fiction and non-fiction books are due back 4 WEEKS from the checkout date.

Reference books and magazines are for OVERNIGHT USE ONLY.

A Due Date sticker will be placed in each book as a reminder when the book is due.

There is no limit on the amount of regular books a student can checkout.

Reference books are limited to TWO books per student.

Students can checkout ONE magazine at a time.

Overdues & Fines

Overdue fines are calculated by tallying school days only. Weekends, holidays, and teacher workdays are not chargeable days.

  • Regular books are charged at 10¢ per day up to a maximum of $10.00.

  • Reference books are charged at 25¢ per hour or $2.00 per day.

  • Magazines are charged at 50¢ per day.

Students can see a media specialist to make arrangements to work off a fine.

Reservations & Renewals

Students can place a reserve on books that are on loan or unavailable, provided they do not have any overdue books or outstanding fines.

The Desk Clerk will inform the student how many reserves (if any) have already been placed on that item.

Students will receive a notice in homeroom when a reserved item becomes available for checkout.

Students can renew a book one time, provided they do not have any overdue books or outstanding fines.

Overdue books can not be renewed unless all fines are paid at that time.

A book that has a reserve placed on it can not be renewed.

Lost & Damaged Resources

Students who lose or damage a Media Center book or any resource will be responsible for paying the original purchase cost of the item.

Any student who has outstanding fines stemming from a lost or damaged resource will be denied checkout privileges until their fines are paid in full.

The Desk Clerk can provide the cost for a lost or damaged item. Fees can be paid in cash or check to the Desk Clerk in the Media Center. Make checks payable to Kell High School.

COMPUTERS

Acceptable Use

The Media Center and all patrons must adhere to CCSD technology use policies specified in Rule IFBGA and its subsections. School computers are for school assignments only.

Students may access specific url's (web addresses) or perform school-related Internet searches when authorized by their supervising teacher or other faculty member.

Instant Messaging, downloading software, playing video games, and Internet searching for non-school related purposes are some of the unacceptable uses for school computers.

Failure to adhere to acceptable CCSD technology use policies (see Rule IFBGA) may result in the loss of computer privileges and further disciplinary actions.

Login Info

Students will use the ID number assigned to them by the county as their Username and create an 8 character password that may contain both letters and numbers.

Username: [county ID # here]

Password: [must be at least 8 characters]

DON'T FORGET TO LOGOUT WHEN FINISHED!

Printing and Copying

All Media Center computers are mapped to print to the copy machine near the laminating room. The Printer/Copier only provides black & white printouts.

The Printer/Copier is to be used to print out school assignments only. Students who need to print personal papers should see a member of the Media Center staff first.

The first copy of a school related printout is free. Students needing more than one copy will be charged 10¢ per printed page. Color printouts are $1.00 per page. See the a media specialist to print color.

Copies are 10¢ per page.  The machine accepts nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar bills and will provide change.

Saving Work Files

IMPORTANT! Students should not save their work to the hard drive (c:) on any of the Media Center computers. This includes My Documents or the Desktop.

All files that students create on the hard drive (c:) are automatically deleted when the  student logs out.

Students should save all files under their personal network space which can be found by navigating to their ID# when saving a file.

Purchasing Disks

It is highly recommended that students always carry spare hard disks, CD-R, and CD-RW disks with them. The Media Center sells disks at the front desk for 50¢.

Students should also get in the habit of saving their work on the network under their ID# and creating back-up's on disk to have a secondary location for important files.

Also, disks are a good method of transporting work between school and home.

MISCELLANEOUS

Behavioral Expectations

Let us all be courteous and adhere to the following rules and behaviors:

  • No cell phone or music players usage in the Media Center.

  • No Food or Drinks in the center. You can leave food and drinks on the table by the Right Main Entrance and pick them up when you leave.

  • No yelling or loudness. Keep voices to a low-level when talking or working in groups. Many people are trying to use the Center at once.

  • Do not roll your computer chairs across the Center. Please walk, do not not run!

  • Log out from your computer when done working.

  • Please stand for the Pledge and remain silent during the Moment of Silence.

Emergency Procedures

In the case of a fire alarm, students should immediately stop what they are doing and follow the instructions of the Media Center staff.

The Fire Evacuation procedure is to exit out the front doors and proceed out the front entrance of the building to the flagpole.

In the case of a tornado or inclement weather, the evacuation procedure is to exit through the front doors of the center and walk down the spiral stairwell into the lower level of the building. Listen for further instructions from the Media Center staff.

Student IDs

Student identification cards are issued to every student during the first few weeks of school. The card contains the students county ID#, student name, grade, and a photo.

The Student ID card is used in the Media Center as identification when checking out books and for other services. Students should carry their ID card at all times while at school.

The first card issued is free. Replacement cards cost $5 and can be obtained in the Media Center. Plan on the process taking 10-15 minutes if you need a replacement made.

Lunch Passes

IMPORTANT! Upon arrival in the center, students MUST sign in at the front desk.

Book Requests

Students who know of a book that would make a good addition to the Media Center collection should see a member of the staff to make a purchase request.

The Media Center staff welcomes student input and would like to know the names and types of books our students enjoy reading. Please share your suggestions!
