NEWS FROM THE ![]()
Springs’ a buzz with life, and so is the Clinic at Kemp. So much is going on. We have had recent sittings of Percy Pinkeye. He has been seen in several classrooms at Kemp. Help us keep a watchful eye for Percy, as he will quickly inflame the unsuspecting eye with watery or thick yellow-green drainage. There are several types of Percy Pinkeye’s: bacterial, viral and allergic.

Bacterial pinkeye (conjunctivitis) and viral pinkeye (conjunctivitis) are extremely contagious. Pinkeye is spread through eye-to-hand, hand-to-eye contact. This is why Cobb County’s policy states that children must be removed from class until we have a note from the physician. Depending on the cause a child can be contagious for up to two weeks.
Once treatment has been implemented a child can attend school. A physician may direct longer depending on the severity of the infection.
Your child’s physician must make an actual diagnosis. Bacterial pinkeye is treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointment. Never share medicine because infection may spread. Viral pinkeye usually has no treatment and will usually clear up on its own. Ask your child’s doctor about treatment for viral pinkeye. See www.choa.org for instructions on further treatment, and prevention of transmission. As always remember good hand washing.

Clean clothing is also an important part of hygiene. It’s a good idea to change underclothes daily, and wear clean clothing. Perfumes and fragrances are wonderful, but not if you haven’t bathed or changed your clothing.
Let’s take a few tips from Haley the Hippo, and be good to our bodies by taking the best care of them that we can!
