”School Nurses listen with their hearts”

I have been a Registered Nurse for 25 years working in a wide range of clinical areas.  This is my sixth year in School Nursing.  It is my pleasure to take care of the boys and girls here at this wonderful school.  It is my goal to provide care and information to the students, parents and staff of Kemp Elementary.  I am privileged to be able to make a daily difference in the lives of the boys and girls I care for.  Healthy and happy children do make better learners.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR CHILD DURING SCHOOL HOURS

Parents/Guardians, if your child has asthma, sickle cell, diabetes, food or insect allergies, or chronic conditions that could possibly affect them during the school day, please complete the appropriate care plan included in this link.  It is also advised that you phone or visit me to discuss the specifics of care for your child.  The information is to assist us in providing a safe learning environment as well as being prepared for any health emergencies that might occur in school.  It is not shared with anyone not directly involved with your child during the school day.  If you have questions, don’t hesitate to phone me 678-594-8158 ext. 222

Exactly what does a School Nurse do? I’m glad you asked!

We provide limited basic care to children who are sick or injured.

School nurses assist in administering appropriate medications, and treatments ordered by parents and physicians.

They assist staff and parents in developing plans of care for children with chronic illnesses so they can safely attend school.

We try VERY hard to decrease the transmission of things like lice, chickenpox, ringworm, flu, strep throat, etc.

We assist in important health screenings for hearing, vision and in Middle Schools Scoliosis.

Most importantly we have the opportunity and privilege to positively impact the hundreds of children we come in contact with daily.  http://www.nursingcenter.com/pdf.asp

Is your child too sick for school?

Parents/Guardians, there are times when it is difficult deciding if your child is well enough for school. You may worry that he or she will miss important schoolwork, activities or the chance for perfect attendance awards.   Like adults, children have different tolerances for discomfort and illness. Even with the common colds and viruses, some are able to function well, while others are miserable. Please review the guidelines outlined by Cobb County regarding illness and attendance.
