Read Across America - Circle Around Seuss
All of the students at Kemp will celebrate the birthday of Theodor "Ted" Seuss Geisel this month!  Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904 - his birthday is celebrate throughout America with special reading activities.  At Kemp, all students participate in our Circle Around Seuss event in the media center.  Students have the opportunity to learn more about Dr. Seuss and his books and the chance to win books of their own!

A young boy who was born on Abraham Lincoln's birthday discovers the many ways the two of them are alike!  Students will then use media center resources to find out who shares a birthday with them!

The Secret of the
Silver Key

Second grade students will continue to learn about all of the resources available to them in the media center as they solve this Fribble Mouse mystery!  The year-long activities will include learning about  dictionaries, encyclopedias (both print and electronic), atlases, and other information sources.  During February, they will use WebPath Express in Destiny to locate information on the Internet and explore newspapers.

Third Grade

The Secrets of the
Sea Chest

Students will learn about the secret resources available in the media center as they try to solve this Fribble Mouse mystery!  During February, they will master road maps, atlases, and globes!
Superdog:
The Heart of a Hero

Third-grade students will listen to this 2007-2008 Georgia Picture Story Book Nominee about a true superhero with determination, spirit, and heart!
Fourth Grade
Students will create their own Literature Web as they continue to explore a variety of genres and authors.  They will read a Newbery Award Book, informational text, historical fiction, etc.
The Case of the Three-Legged Buffalo

Fourth Grade students will explore a variety of information resources as they solve this mystery!  This month they will uncover the mysteries of the Dewey Decimal System and use a telephone directory as a resource!
Fifth Grade
Our projects are complete!  Each fifth grade student produced a segment for Black History Month that will feature a famous African-American figure.  After completing the background research using a variety of resources, they then compiled the information into an interesting and informative Power Point presentation.  All of the segments will be broadcast on Cougar Cable News or the Kemp Elementary Electronic Bulletin Board during the month of February.  Please stop by the school and watch our daily broadcast of CCN News or visit throughout the day to view the segments on the school's electronic bulletin board!
