Gooney Bird and the Room Mother

The students will spend the month with Gooney Bird Green who likes to be "right smack in the middle of everything" and the center of attention!
 
First graders will use dictionaries right along with the students in the story to look up a few challenging vocabulary words and look for more information in encyclopedias!

Second grade students will review the information resources that they discovered as they solved the Fribble Mouse mystery!  They will answer questions using dictionaries, encyclopedias (both print and electronic), atlases, and other information sources to collect keys for their information keychain!

Students will put their information skills to the test as they play Media Survivor!  Each "tribe" will use reference resources to solve the challenges presented to them!

Spring training is in full-swing!  Third-grade students will listen to this 2007-2008 Georgia Picture Story Book Nominee and learn the true story behind Take Me Out to the Ball Game!
Fourth Grade
Students are nearing the completion of their  Literature Web as they continue to explore a variety of genres and authors.  They will read a Newbery Award Book, informational text, historical fiction, etc.
 
In preparation for the upcoming CRCT assessment, each 4th grade class will be participating in the Ultimate Expedition!  Groups of students will be using a variety of reference resources to research the world and complete a series of challenges!
Fifth Grade
Our projects are complete!  Each fifth grade student produced a segment for Black History Month that will feature a famous African-American figure.  All of the segments will be broadcast on Cougar Cable News or the Kemp Elementary Electronic Bulletin Board during the month of February and extending into March.  Please stop by the school and watch our daily broadcast of CCN News or visit throughout the day to view the segments on the school's electronic bulletin board!
