The Turn-Around Upside-Down
Alphabet Book

Where does an A become a bird's beak, a drippy ice-cream cone, or a point on a star?  In this book, of course!  Students will have the opportunity to create their own turned-around, upside-down letter!

Follow the Money!

Second grade students will follow a newly minted quarter as he is passed around all around town!  Then they will count coins to create as many numbers as they can!

Second grade students will continue to learn about all of the resources available to them in the media center as they solve this Fribble Mouse mystery!  The year-long activities will include learning about  dictionaries, encyclopedias (both print and electronic), atlases, and other information sources.  During October, they will meet explore telephone directories and investigate print encyclopedias.

Third Grade

The Secrets of the
Sea Chest

Students will learn about the secret resources available in the media center as they try to solve this Fribble Mouse mystery!  During October, they will explore biographies and magazines.
Precious and the Boo Hag

Third-grade students will listen to another of the 2007-2008 Georgia Picture Story Book Nominees that's not-too-scary and oh-so-funny!!
Fourth Grade
Fourth Grade students will create their own Literature Web as they explore a variety of genres and authors.  They will expand their book selections by reading a Newbery Award Book, non-fiction, historical fiction, etc. 
The Case of the Three-Legged Buffalo

Fourth Grade students will explore a variety of information resources as they solve this mystery!  This month they will research historical events using the Cobb Virtual Library and explore the many fun facts in the World Almanac!
Fifth Grade
Fifth Grade students will each produce a segment for Black History Month in February that will feature a famous African-American figure.  They will complete the background research using a variety of resources and then compile the information into an interesting and informative Power Point presentation that will be broadcast on Cougar Cable News or the Kemp Elementary Electronic Bulletin Board during the month of February.  Students will locate their resources this month and begin the research process using books, videos, the Cobb Virtual Library, and Internet sites.
