What have we been learning in room 205?

In Reading, we are:

·         Working on sight word recognition.

·         Learning “word attack” skills.

·         Learning strategies to improve reading comprehension.

·         Working in leveled groups on various word work activities.

·         Reading the Book of the Month, Edward and the Pirates.

 

In Writing we are:

·         Learning the 6+1 Traits of Writing.

·         Writing daily and staying on topic.

·         Learning how to end our stories with a feeling, memory, decision, or wish.

·         Learning about great beginnings that authors use like onomatopoeia (Bam!  Kerplunk!  Splat!  Plop!).

·         Focusing on conventions (capital letters, punctuation, & spelling).

·         Learning to present our published pieces with neat handwriting and nice illustrations.

·         Learning procedural writing using transitional words.

·         Practicing how to use the writing process.

 

In Math we are learning:

·         Addition and Subtraction.

·         Skip Counting.

·         Fact Families.

·         Place Value (Tens, Ones).

·         Calendar.

·         Problem solving with Math Journals.

·         Arithmetic Done Daily (ADD).

 

 

Book Fair

Our class will visit the Book Fair next Thursday to shop for books.  We will go at 9:00-9:20 if you would like to come and shop with your son or daughter.

 

 

Treasure Box Treat

A note to students!

If you can tell your mom or dad all five of the classroom rules, you will get to pick a treat from the Treasure Box!  Just bring a note to school to verify that you knew the five rules! J

 

Red Ribbon Week

October 17 – October 21

   Monday – “A Sea of Red” Wear red clothes

Tuesday – “Tie Down Drugs” Wear a tie

Wednesday – “Sock it to Drugs” Wear silly socks

Thursday – “Give Drugs the Slip” Wear slippers

Friday – “Team up Against Drugs” Wear your favorite sports team clothing

 

Conference Week

Parents have homework for conference time!  Please speak with your child and find out their three favorite things about our class.  Write it down and bring it with you when you come.  If you have misplaced your time, e-mail me for a reminder. J                      DM 10/13/05
