Classroom
Guidance
Classroom
guidance allows our counseling program to be preventive in
nature. Our lessons employ the Georgia Performance/Power
Standards for grades K-5, which are aligned with the ASCA National
Model. We are also able to meet the goals of our local School
Improvement Plan by incorporating children’s literature and
specialized writing activities into our guidance lessons.
Students receive lessons every other week focusing on positive
life skills.
The
first two weeks of October will be focused on Drug Prevention as
we prepare for Red Ribbon Week. We
will discuss healthy and unhealthy choices in kindergarten and
first grade. In second grade, students will learn the harmful
effects of smoking. Our third, fourth and fifth grade students
will continue the Botvin Life Skills curriculum, with a lesson on
smoking.
The last two weeks of October will be focused on Bully
Prevention. The lessons will be age appropriate as we define
bullying behavior and bystanders. We will provide the tools
students need to stand up for themselves and for others. They
will learn the difference between reporting and tattling. Our
goal this year is to encourage bystanders to help put a stop to
bullying behavior. |
